This blog is about making and keeping your Teak Wood looking great.
Is this a “Self Serving” blog?
Yes it is like every other blog, website, or billboard that is fit to read.
Is it one big advertisement?
No! Absolutely not. If you think you can successfully finish teak wood without good products and tools, you are sadly mistaken or it has been far too long since you were actually productive or successful.
Why do I care about you successfully finishing and protecting your teak wood?
Because I make products that do a really good job of cleaning, finishing and protecting teak without damaging the wood, you or the environment in the process.
- Damaging the wood?
Yes! Most two part cleaners damage the wood as does bleach. Sanding off sun dried and cracked sealer finishes, in preparation to apply even more sealer finish, damages the wood by sanding it away. I do not condone or recommend these actions. - Damaging You?
Yes! Two part cleaners use sodium hydroxide (oven cleaner) as the Part A of the 2 part cleaner. Sodium Hydroxide can and will burn your skin severely and it does the same thing to your teak. Further, you can not wash or neutralize it all! This means that it keeps on working on your wood (be it slowly) for a long time after your cleaning effort has ended. This extended process weakens the micro fibers that hold the main fibers of the wood together resulting in pealing of the weakened woods surface material and any finish that may be adhered or bonded to the surface. All TeakGuard products are very people friendly and water based. - Damaging the environment?
Yes, most over the counter teak cleaners can severely damage the environment. Most finishes use dangerous VOC and other solvents. Some of these solvents are even carcinogenic and most are flammable. All TeakGuard products are very environmentally friendly and water based.
Yes! We talk about procedures related to the care and feed of teak wood.
Yes! We talk about what products and procedures that work and what don’t work and why.
Yes! We accept comments that add value or raise relevant questions.
Please don’t think that the investment you have made in your teak furniture or boat was an unfortunate mistake. Even with minimal maintenance your teak will last for ever. It may not look great, but it will last a very long time. Our goal is to help you make your teak wood look great for that long time!
